Ø2mm Ruby Ball:
Ruby Ball Material, the industry standard and the optimum stylus ball material for a vast majority of measurement applications. Very few applications exist where ruby is not the preferred ball material. However, heavy-duty scanning applications on aluminum or cast iron, silicon nitride and zirconia balls are preferred respectively.
Stainless Steel Stem Material:
Stainless steel stem styli are used widely for styli with ball/tip diameters of 2 mm or greater with lengths up to 30 mm. For longer applications, ceramic stems offer crash protection to your probe as the stem will shatter in a collision. For short stem application, tungsten carbide is best used for its ability to maximize stiffness. For unique application of carbon fiber is excellent for protection in the most hostile of machine tool environments.
